British Cycling & national racing

BC are possibly making changes to under 13 racing national racing. As yet there’s no mention of which disciplines this might be applied to. But from reading the attached document and if I read this correctly they are looking consult riders & parents on the following:

  • Stopping national riding for under 13’s as of 2016, so basically regional racing only & removal of national ranking points
  • Simplification of rules
  • Introduction of equipment regulations to help keep the cost of cycling down

From 2017:

  • National race qualification for all riders over 13

In summary – taken from the BC document – all National level competition (including National Rankings, National Series and National Championships) should be for riders aged 13-14 and older, and only for the best riders as identified through Regional events with an emphasis on quality over quantity of races. For younger ages, and less talented riders, racing is still encouraged, but only at a Local / Regional level where the enjoyment and development of skills is paramount
