    Club update….

Just wanted to keep you up to speed with whats going on at the club at present.

We’re currently in the process of getting the quotes together for the proposed upgrades to the site. These include getting mains electricity, installing a perimeter fence & gate, converting the generator store into a W/C block and store, installing floodlights and building a clubhouse. We have nearly received all of the quotes back and will soon start putting the planning application together. Most of the upgrades are fairly straight forward; however the lights are going to take a bit of work, not only getting local residents on board but also the District Council Planners. Torridge are very keen to help and we have a meeting with their Sports and recreation officer in the coming weeks who if you hadn’t noticed helped our neighbours – Bideford Boxing club get their massive new training facility. This can only be a good thing for us moving forward. Have also contacted Clark & Kent regarding the track and we are keen to get prices to upgrade the first and last straight – there’s work to do with getting information over to them so they can give us an accurate idea of how much this might cost.

As you can see we’ve been busy over the last few weeks.  If you feel you might like to help, please give us a shout. Thanks

  • British Cycling & national racing

    British Cycling & national racing

BC are possibly making changes to under 13 racing national racing. As yet there’s no mention of which disciplines this might be applied to. But from reading the attached document and if I read this correctly they are looking consult riders & parents on the following:

    • Stopping national riding for under 13’s as of 2016, so basically regional racing only & removal of national ranking points
    • Simplification of rules
    • Introduction of equipment regulations to help keep the cost of cycling down

    From 2017:

    • National race qualification for all riders over 13

In summary – taken from the BC document – all National level competition (including National Rankings, National Series and National Championships) should be for riders aged 13-14 and older, and only for the best riders as identified through Regional events with an emphasis on quality over quantity of races. For younger ages, and less talented riders, racing is still encouraged, but only at a Local / Regional level where the enjoyment and development of skills is paramount

See here for full document, if you’d like to comment on these proposals send an email to  youthworkgroup@britishcycling.org.uk

  • Club T-Shirt Designs

    Club T-Shirt Designs

Just knocked up a couple of ideas for club T-Shirts. Not sure on the price of these yet as the sites I’ve looked at seem quite expensive. However, I’ll talk with Darren when he gets back from holiday to see what sort of prices he can get through his contacts. I am also investigating getting some cut vinyl stickers made up with the logo in black – I’m waiting on quotes for these.  If you fancy a different colour combination let me know and I’ll see what I can organise.

  • We need your help

    We need your help

We’re on the hunt for volunteers. We need people to help in two areas:

    • Session coordinators – a fancy job title for people who set the gate up and take it down. This would be on summer training evenings Tuesday & Thursday between 6 & 8pm and Saturdays year round (weather depending) between 2 & 4pm.
    • Kitchen & tuck room coordinators – To run the kitchen, take subs, ensure riders are signed in and are wearing the appropriate wrist band etc. Again this role would operate for the same time/days as the above.

We want to make the club accessible to members as possible and be clear to you as a member when the club will be open and when the gate will be operating. Please let us know if you’d be able to commit a few hours to help the club get these fundamental elements in place. Thanks

  • Change of Venue for AGM

    Change of Venue for AGM

OK guys, we’ve had to change the venue for the AGM. It’s now being held this Sunday at the Liberal Club in Bideford, High Street – see map here for directions. We are aiming to start at 18:15, but the doors will be open from 18:00 – would be really good to see as many members as possible, it’s your chance to help shape how the club will move forward in 2015 and to vote in a new committee. Look forward to seeing you all there.

    Club AGM 2014

AGM 2014 is being held this year on Sunday 19th October at 18:00 at the Conservative Club in Bideford – see here for location. This is  an opportunity for you to feel part of the decision making process of your club. It also serves to:

    • Highlight the progress and achievements of the Club over the past 12 months
    • Elect the Committee for the following year
    • Make any changes to the constitution, we are looking to adopt a CASC (Community Amateur Sports Club) constitution to allow us to access more funding streams. See here for more information on CASC

We’ve included a document (See here) from British Cycling that lists all of the key roles that a BMX Club should have in place to operate effectively. If you would like to get involved take a look and see what you can offer.
